A quality escape occurs when a nonconforming part moves beyond the point where the issue should have been detected. The resulting work can extend beyond replacing the part: teams may need to locate affected stock, stop further releases, inspect material, and coordinate the next shipment.
The impact depends on the defect, quantity, and stage of production. Use the actual event records to understand that impact rather than applying an assumed cost to every incident.
Establish the affected stock
Identify the part and revision, suspected lots, shipment history, and locations where material may be held. Assign responsibility for coordinating the response. Define who can place stock on hold and who can release it.
If the boundary of the affected material is uncertain, escalate that question to the responsible quality team. An inspection provider needs a defined scope and a way to handle unresolved cases.
Turn the requirement into a repeatable check
Agree written acceptance criteria, the inspection method, identification, and reporting. Include the process for separating accepted, rejected, and unresolved parts. If work spans shifts or locations, make sure everyone uses the same approved instructions.
Confirm when the provider can start and what output can be agreed. Response time depends on the job; a general promise of deployment does not establish availability for a particular site or date.
Track the work the event creates
- Inspection, sorting, and quality-engineering time.
- Rework or replacement material.
- Packaging, transport, and handling.
- Inventory held while decisions are pending.
- Any documented disruption to the receiving operation.
Containment helps manage the affected stock. Preventing recurrence requires the process owner to investigate the cause and verify corrective action. Keep those responsibilities distinct while sharing the inspection results that can support the investigation.
WGS provides inspection, sorting, and containment support. Contact the team with the issue, quantity, location, and required timing to discuss the work.
